Sarah Lucas: BUNNY BOOK

$70

Sarah Lucas: BUNNY BOOK is a new catalogue surveying Lucas’s ongoing, and now iconic, sculptural Bunny series, begun in 1997.

Formed of tights stuffed with kapok or wool fluff, stockings (and latterly shoes), appended to chairs, Lucas’s soft sculptures conjure the uncanny spectacle of seated female nudes in states of abject vulnerability and abandon, adapting over time to assume a more emphatic self-confidence and 'attitudinising' swagger.

Spanning Lucas’s three-decade career, this richly illustrated catalogue brings together seminal works in the series first shown in 1997, charting their evolution through the addition of colour, plinths and cast bronze, concrete and metal; and crucially, their increasingly robust and dynamic postures that assertively claim their space with individualistic vigor.

Designed by Studio Claus Due, BUNNY BOOK includes special contributions by curator Nancy Spector and writers Rose Eastwood and Róisín Tapponi. The catalogue was produced to coincide with Lucas’s major survey exhibition, HAPPY GAS, at Tate Britain, in which numerous significant works from the series were shown in dialogue with brand new iterations shown for the first time at Tate.
