Salvo: Arrivare in tempo (Arriving on Time)
$45
A reference monograph published on the occasion of the exhibition Arrivare in tempo (Arriving on Time) at Pinacoteca Agnelli, November 1, 2024–May 25, 2025
Giorgio Di Domenico analyzes Salvo’s two 1973 exhibitions at the John Weber Gallery in New York and the Toselli Gallery in Milan, which serve as the starting point for the exhibition Arriving on Time. From these two setups, the author delves into the elements of continuity and rupture between Salvo’s so-called conceptual period and his subsequent painterly production. In the essay Tender is the Night, Valérie Da Costa focuses on Salvo’s chromatic and luministic research, examining some works displayed in the La Grande Sera room. Artist Mario García Torres presents an imaginative journey into Salvo’s work, structured as a travel diary page. Alison Gingeras explores the allegory of Saint George and the Dragon, which frequently recurs in Salvo’s production, as a metaphor for the artist’s methodology: Saint George represents the brave decision to return to painting, while the Dragon symbolizes the normative approach of contemporary criticism, which failed to grasp the complexity of his position.
